Biomedical Autism Intervention – Long Term Results Therapies

Posted on 05 November 2009 by autism

Long Term feedback therapy in autism. In a previous recording I talk about immediate feedback therapies, the things that tend to give positive feedback in a short amount of time. Some immediate feedback therapies include diet, supplement support, treating yeast and bacteria, methylation support with B-12 therapy, etc. And when I say immediate I mean in the first 4 – 6 weeks.

There are long term feedback therapies which when you implement them, it may take time for there to be recognizable positive responses. That doesn’t say there cannot be immediate changes happening but you need to be more patient with long term feedback therapies and allow more time for things to change. For example, chelation therapy or heavy metal detox therapy. You are not going to see immediate changes, not to say that cannot happen, but for most kids change usually happens over months, not weeks.

The changes can be better eye contact, more awareness, behavior, language, etc. The other long term feedback therapies would be immune therapies such as transfer factor, Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), etc. and they tend to have benefits over a long period of time. Hyper Baric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) could be put in this category of long term feedback therapies also.

I have had patients who do HBOT and have had immediate changes within the first 2 – 3 sessions, sometimes within the first 2 – 3 weeks so we know immediate change can happen. But on average gains are seen over time, maybe even a few months as the therapies are spread out over time.

There are ways to implement HBOT more frequently that might show more of an immediate feedback. But on average the way HBOT is structured, having to drive to a clinic, limited time in the chamber, etc. makes it more of a long term feedback therapy. We know that there are immediate feedback therapies that also show good benefits over time.

For example, methyl B-12 support, we can see positive responses immediately. But methyl B-12 therapy and particularly the injectable form, can work well and provide biochemical support for months and months and months, and in many cases over several years if used continually.

All of these biomedical protocols work well when you implement them over a long term period and there are those things that show immediate changes early on that give you confidence to keep moving forward. The long term feedback therapies tend to show more subtle positive changes and tend to be stretched out over longer periods of time.

"When my daughter was diagnosed with Autism 3 years ago I would have done anything to have something like the Autism Action Plan to turn to. Doctors diagnose your child like she has a cold and give you no information on what it is or how to help your child. I spent the first year after my daughter was diagnosed researching anything and everything I could about autism. I didn't find even a fraction of the information that is provided in Autism Action Plan. Everything is all right there, current research and therapies, the ability to talk with other parents dealing with the same struggles you face, and most importantly, direct contact with a caring doctor who has dedicated his career to treating our children. Whenever I meet anyone who has or knows a child with autism, I tell them about this wonderful service and encourage them to get plugged in. It is a valuble resource for parents and we are very thankful for it."
