I'm a 37 year old autistic man, and I discovered probiotics over a year ago. I bought some milk kefir through ebay, and that means all I need after that is milk, if treated right, your kefir will last indefinitely, giving you a probiotic source that surpasses anything on the shelves. It's made a major difference to my life, and to my food. It's more than just a healthy drink, it's a whole different approach to preparing food.

Our younger son, who is three, was recently diagnosed with PDD-NOS. He developed a nasty case of eczema when he was a few months old. (It runs in my husband's family.) We tried every lotion and potion known to mankind to help our little guy. I recently read an article about good bacteria in Parents magazine, which suggested products like Activia as a treatment for eczema. We give our son 1 yogurt every morning. Fortunately, he hasn't had digestive issues...this was solely used to help his eczema. It did help the eczema, and it's been great for his digestion. Is something like Activia useful in place of some of the supplements you mentioned, or would the supplements provide even more help? Thank you!

every kid is diffrent with what probiotics there body needs it is thru trial and error to figure out this stuff.
example my son went crazy on therbiotic by klaires..also on couple others..then i tried culturelle a single strain some say is easier on the body to start. but you have to go by trial and error!
even the best docter cant tell you what is best for your child becuase only you know how your child reacts.

Hi Dr Woeller,
I have a 24yr old son with autism. I have been giving him probiotic - dairy free which contains 12.5 billion Lactobacillus Acidophilus (NCFM) organism + 12.5 billion Bifidobacterium Lactis (Bi-07) organisms for the last 5-6 yrs. daily. Is it ok to have it for long term? Will there be any side effect? What dosage is best for him? Please advise me. Thanks.
