Nichole:
How old is the individual with low SIgA? It seems this condition may be outgrowable.
My 17 yr old daughter has not outgrown it yet and it has become quite debilitating physiologically. Many times those affected the most also have a deficiency in subclasses of the antibody IgG. Perhaps you should ask the immunologist if this type of testing would be appropriate. Also, do a search for Dr. Terry Chin's article on MedLine or MedScape regarding IgA and IgG subclass deficiency.
Good luck! Keep asking questions.

What if secretory IgA is low, but serum IgA is normal? An Immunologist told me secretory IgA had no significance on overall health or immunity, but from what I've read the secretory component binds with the serum component to cross the mucosal barrier. Also, do you have to continue with colostrum, for example, to maintain normal secretory levels? Same for probiotics? Thank you.
