Biomedical Autism Recovery – Converting Pounds to Kilograms

Posted on 09 November 2009 by autism

A useful equation to know is how to convert your child’s weight from pounds to kilograms. A lot of medications and supplements require a conversion to kilograms figure out the particular dose. What you do is take your child weight in pounds and divide by 2.2, that will give you your child’s weight in kilograms. Then you take that value and multiply it by the specific dosage recommendation for whatever supplement or medication you are using. Let’s take for example a child that weighs 40 pounds. You divide 40 by 2.2 and that comes to 18.2 kg and you can round down to 18 or round up to 20 and either will be fine. So we’ll use 18.2 and find the appropriate dose for a supplement that requires 25 mg per kilogram. So the particular dose would be 455 mg. We got that by multiplying the child’s weight in kilograms (18) and the dosage per kilogram (25). So it is pretty tough to get a specific dose at 455 mg so you can round down to 450 mg. So again, you divide the weight in pounds by 2.2 to get the kilogram weight and then multiply that by the mg per kilogram dosage to find out what their overall dose will be for that particular supplement.

"By far and away the MOST important part of our intervention program for my 8 year old daughter was your Methyl-B12 therapy. More important than speech therapy, behavior therapy, OT. Only the GFCF diet comes close, and in our case, it is very important, too."
